Find and Disable Model Files to Change Block Appearance

Locate JSON Model Files

Block models are stored as JSON files separate from textures. Surface Detailer lets you toggle these to swap how blocks render.

1. Open Options → Resource Packs

2. Click the Gear icon next to your pack

3. Search for the block name followed by .json (for example, "andesite.json")

4. The mod displays linked texture files alongside the model—review these to understand what will change

5. Toggle the model file OFF to disable it

6. Confirm your changes

Test Your Changes

Reload resource packs and place the block in-game to see the result. If the block now appears invisible or broken, the mod displays an error message. You can either toggle the model back on, or ensure a fallback pack provides an alternative model.

Use the file linking feature to jump between related JSON and texture files—this helps you understand which textures a model uses before hiding it.
