Surface Detailer Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I open the Surface Detailer interface?
Go to Options > Resource Packs, then click the small gear icon next to any resource pack in your list. This opens the Surface Detailer menu for that pack.
Can I hide textures from multiple packs at once?
No, you edit one pack at a time. Open the gear icon for each pack separately to toggle its files. When you hide a texture, the game falls back to the next pack below it in your load order.
What happens if I turn off a texture that a model file needs?
Surface Detailer warns you before you confirm the change, showing which model files depend on that texture. If you proceed anyway, you'll see purple-and-black missing texture errors in-game.
Do my changes get saved if I close the game?
Yes, all your toggles are saved automatically. Your original resource pack files stay untouched—Surface Detailer stores your settings separately.
How do I find a specific texture file quickly?
Use the search bar at the top of the Surface Detailer menu and type the file name or block name you're looking for. It filters across all folders in the pack instantly.
Can I see a preview of what a texture looks like before hiding it?
Yes, Surface Detailer shows live thumbnail previews next to each file name so you can see exactly what you're toggling on or off.
What's the difference between hiding a texture file and hiding a model file?
Hiding a texture file removes the image itself, while hiding a model file (JSON) changes how a block is shaped or rendered. You can toggle both independently to customize appearance and shape together.
How do I undo all my changes to a pack?
Open the gear icon for that pack and look for a reset option. Confirm the action and all your toggles will return to default—no need to reload the pack manually.
Does Surface Detailer work with packs that have custom models?
Yes, it works with any resource pack. You can toggle individual model files on and off, and the mod even lets you jump between linked texture and JSON files to see how they connect.
Will Surface Detailer slow down my game?
No, the mod only affects the resource pack menu interface. Once you've toggled your files and reloaded, performance is the same as playing with a normal resource pack.
