How to Set Your Own Nickname with Colors and Gradients

Using the /nick set Command

The core command for changing your own name is /nick set <name>. The <name> argument accepts Simplified Text Formatting tags, so you can wrap words in color, gradient, bold, or italic markup directly inside the command. For example, a gradient tag lets you specify two or more colors and the mod blends them across the text, while a color tag applies a single flat color. Bold and italic tags can be nested around the same word.

Start simple: run /nick set #red Hello (or whatever your configured prefix is — the default is #) to confirm the command works and the color applies. Once that renders correctly in chat, layer in more tags. If a tag does not render, the tag name is probably misspelled or that formatting type is disabled in the config.

Checking and Reverting

After setting a nickname, look at your chat line and the player list (if list display is enabled) to confirm both update. If you want to go back to your original username, use the clear variant of the command rather than setting your nickname to your real name — clearing removes the styling entirely. Keep in mind the server may enforce a maximum nickname length, so very long gradient strings can be rejected. If your nickname is refused, shorten it and try again rather than assuming the command is broken.
