Protecting Farms from Horses and Tamed Dogs

Why Pets and Mounts Trample Crops

Horses you ride and dogs you tame follow you across your base, and their movement can convert farmland to dirt in vanilla. Stronger Farmland Mod prevents horses and dogs from trampling hydrated farmland, so you can ride or walk your pets through the fields without losing crops.

Making Your Farm Pet-Proof

1. Till the soil and ensure water reaches every block so the farmland is hydrated.

2. Plant seeds and let them grow — the protection applies to the farmland block itself, so crops stay planted.

3. Ride your horse through the rows to test. The farmland should stay dark and intact.

4. Keep dogs free to follow you; they will no longer undo your tilling.

Handling Edge Cases

If you lead a horse across farmland that has dried out (water removed or blocked), trampling can still occur. Re-hydrate the area before bringing animals through. Also note that the mod targets hydrated farmland specifically — bare dirt paths and dry tilled soil are not protected, so route traffic over hydrated plots or dedicated paths to keep everything safe.
