Designing a Farm That Never Loses Its Tilled Soil

Plan Around Hydration

Since Stronger Farmland Mod only guards hydrated farmland, the core design rule is simple: every tilled block must be within range of water. Build your layout so no farmland block sits dry, and the whole field becomes trample-resistant for players, horses, dogs, and Iron Golems.

Layout Steps

1. Decide your plot size, then place water sources so their hydration radius covers the entire tilled area. Rows of water alternating with rows of farmland work well.

2. Till all soil and verify each block turns dark, confirming hydration.

3. Plant crops across the field.

4. Add fencing only where you want to block access for other reasons — trample protection no longer requires it for hydrated blocks.

Maintaining Protection Over Time

Water can be lost to block breaking, piston pushes, or terrain changes. Periodically walk the field and check that farmland is still dark. If any block looks dry, restore the water source and re-till if needed. Because the mod strengthens dirt and soils when hydrated, a well-irrigated farm effectively maintains itself against everyday foot traffic, letting you focus on harvesting rather than repairing.
