Stray Spawn Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I make strays spawn everywhere instead of just ice biomes?
The mod already does this by default — any skeleton that spawns anywhere in the world has a chance to be a stray instead. You don't need to enable biome spawning; just make sure the mod is loaded and the chance value isn't set to 0.
Where is the config file for this mod?
It's a standard Forge-style config, so look in your instance's config folder for a file matching the mod's name. Open it with a text editor and edit the chanceSkeletonIsStray value, then save and restart the game.
What does chanceSkeletonIsStray actually control?
It sets the probability that a skeleton which just spawned is converted into a stray instead. The value runs from 0 (never) to 1 (always), with the default being 0.25.
Do I need to restart Minecraft after changing the config?
Yes — config changes are read at load time, so edit the file, save it, and fully restart the game for the new chance to take effect.
Why are no strays spawning even though I set the chance?
Check that the value is between 0 and 1 and that you actually saved the file before restarting. Also remember the chance only applies to skeletons that spawn, so you still need normal skeleton spawn conditions (darkness, valid spawn spots).
Can I turn strays off completely and get normal skeletons back?
Yes — set chanceSkeletonIsStray to 0 in the config. Every skeleton will then spawn as a normal skeleton, including in ice biomes.
Can I make every skeleton a stray?
Set chanceSkeletonIsStray to 1. Every skeleton that spawns will be a stray, regardless of biome.
Does this mod work with other mob or spawn mods?
It only changes the skeleton-to-stray conversion, so it generally coexists with other mods. If another mod also overrides skeleton spawning, load order and config conflicts can affect which one wins, so test in a copy of your world first.
Will this mod hurt my performance or cause lag?
No — it's a minimal mod that only swaps the variant at spawn time, so it adds essentially no overhead. Any lag you see is almost certainly from something else.
Do strays from this mod still drop arrows of slowness and behave like normal strays?
Yes — they're regular strays, so they keep their normal behavior, including the slowness effect on hit and their usual drops. The mod only changes where and how often they spawn.
