Stoneholm Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I find a Stoneholm village?
Underground villages generate in the Overworld's depths, so you'll need to dig down or explore cave systems to run into one. Watch for constructed corridors, doors, and lit halls that stand out from natural caves. The spiral staircases some villages have can connect deeper sections to upper ones, so follow them if you find one.
Do Stoneholm villages replace normal surface villages?
No. With the mod installed you'll still find regular surface villages; the underground settlements are generated in addition to them. That means villagers can spawn both above and below ground in the same world.
Are the villagers in Stoneholm villages normal villagers?
Yes. They behave like regular villagers and still use job site blocks, so trading and professions work normally. Iron Golems also spawn to protect them, just like in surface villages.
How do I get into a Stoneholm village if the doors are closed?
The doors are just normal doors, so you can open them by hand or break in if you prefer. Many villages also have open corridors and galleries you can walk straight into. If you're tunneling from above, be careful not to drop into a hall from too high.
Why can't I find any underground villages?
They generate at specific depths, so if you're searching too shallow or too deep you may miss them. Try exploring large cave systems and ravines, since villages often intersect natural caverns. Also make sure you're in a fresh area of the world, because villages only generate with new chunks.
Can I live inside a Stoneholm village?
Yes, the corridors and empty homes make good base locations. Just remember villagers and Iron Golems will wander through, so wall off the rooms you want to keep private. Lighting the halls also helps keep hostile mobs from spawning in unlit sections.
How do I move villagers out of a Stoneholm village?
You can use boats, minecarts, or leads on the villagers to move them through the corridors and up to the surface. The enclosed hallways actually make it easier to herd them without them wandering off. Just watch out for Iron Golems, which may attack if you hurt a villager.
What kind of treasure can I find in abandoned Stoneholm sections?
Abandoned areas are the best places to loot, since they're not guarded by villagers or golems. You'll typically find chests with useful items scattered through the empty rooms and corridors. Bring plenty of torches, because these sections are often unlit and full of mobs.
Do Stoneholm villages have farms and animals?
Some villages include grassy areas where farm animals can spawn, so you may find cows, sheep, or pigs underground. Villagers also farm crops on job site blocks, so food production works inside the village. You can breed the animals or harvest the crops for yourself.
Will Stoneholm villages cause lag or performance problems?
Large underground villages with many villagers, golems, and lit halls can add some load, especially if you're exploring several at once. If you notice lag, try not to keep too many chunks with active villages loaded at the same time. Performance will depend on your machine and how many other mods you're running.
