How do I start building my first train line?

How do I connect and disconnect train cars?

Can I use the conductor uniform I saw in the screenshots?
The conductor uniform is a cosmetic item available in creative mode or through crafting; check your creative inventory or a crafting guide for the recipe if you're in survival mode.
Is this mod still in development and might break my world?
