Adjusting Shadow Quality and Distance
Access Shader Settings
Open the Shader Options menu from your Video Settings. Look for the Steadfast Shaders configuration panel—this is where all visual adjustments live.
Configure Shadow Parameters
Locate the shadow-related sliders. You'll find options to control:
- Shadow distance: How far shadows render from your character. Reducing this improves performance on lower-end systems while keeping nearby shadows sharp.
- Shadow quality/resolution: Higher values create crisper shadow edges, especially noticeable on tree foliage and building outlines.
Balance Performance
If you're experiencing frame drops, lower the shadow distance first—this has the biggest performance impact. Then adjust quality if needed. Start conservative and increase until you notice stuttering, then back off slightly.
Apply and Test
After changing settings, walk around different environments (forests, buildings, open sky) to see how shadows behave. Shadows are most visible during morning and evening when the sun is low. Revisit settings if the balance between visuals and performance doesn't feel right for your hardware.
