Understand Enchantment Stacking Rules

What Can and Cannot Stack

This data pack removes specific mutual exclusivity rules, but not all enchantments can combine. Understanding the rules helps you plan your gear effectively.

Stackable Groups

Protection Enchantments: Blast Protection, Fire Protection, and Projectile Protection can now all exist on one armor piece together.

Bow/Crossbow Enchantments: Infinity and Mending can coexist, and bow enchantments can apply to crossbows.

Still Mutually Exclusive

Some enchantments remain incompatible by design:

  • Protection (generic) may conflict with specific protection types
  • Silk Touch and Fortune cannot stack on tools
  • Sharpness, Smite, and Bane of Arthropods remain exclusive on weapons
  • Loyalty and Riptide remain exclusive on tridents

Testing Your Setup

If you're unsure whether two enchantments will combine:

1. Try applying them in an anvil

2. If the anvil shows a red X or refuses the combination, they're incompatible

3. Refer to the data pack's feature list for confirmed stackable pairs

Always use enchanted books in an anvil for the most reliable results when attempting to stack enchantments.
