How to Use Spider Webs for Base Defense and Atmosphere

Slowing down mobs and players

Cobwebs are one of the best cheap slowdown tools in the game. Because spiders generate them for you, you can carpet chokepoints without mining a single mineshaft.

1. Build a corridor or doorway where you want to funnel attackers.

2. Let spiders roam that corridor on an air floor so webs accumulate naturally, or collect webs from a farm and place them yourself.

3. Leave gaps so you can still move through, but stack webs where enemies must pass. Anything entering gets stuck and easy to hit.

Making a build look abandoned

Webs read as "old and unused" to most players, which makes them ideal for ruins, dungeons, and forgotten rooms.

  • Place webs in ceiling corners, across doorframes, and over furniture.
  • Vary density: a few strands in a clean room, thick mats in a collapsed one.
  • Combine with cracked stone bricks, mossy blocks, and vines for a consistent aged look.

Letting spiders do it for you

If you want the organic look, confine spiders to the area you want webbed and stand nearby (within maxDistanceToSpiderBlocks). They will scatter webs unevenly, which looks more natural than hand placement. Remove the spiders afterward so they do not keep adding webs where you do not want them, and clear any webs that block your own movement.
