How to Make Spiders Actually Produce Webs (Troubleshooting)

Check the two hard requirements

Spiders only place a web when both conditions are true: the spider must be standing on an air block, and a player must be within the configured distance. If either fails, nothing happens — no error, no message.

1. Watch a spider from a distance. If it walks on solid ground the whole time, it will never web. Lure it onto a ledge, a floating platform, or knock it into a pit so the block beneath it is air.

2. Walk closer. The default maxDistanceToSpiderBlocks is 32, so you generally need to be well within sight range. If you edited the config down to something small, stand almost next to the spider.

3. Production is periodic, not instant. Give it several seconds of continuous proximity.

Common reasons nothing spawns

  • You are too far away. Increase maxDistanceToSpiderBlocks in the config if you want webs to appear from further off.
  • The spider is on a slab, fence, or carpet. These are not air blocks, so the check fails.
  • The spider is in water or a web already. It needs open air under it.
  • You are in a dimension or area where spiders are not spawning naturally — bring spiders there yourself and the mechanic still works.

If you have confirmed air beneath the spider and you are standing close, and still see no webs, re-check that the config file was saved and the world was reloaded.
