How to Configure maxDistanceToSpiderBlocks for Your Playstyle

What the setting does

maxDistanceToSpiderBlocks controls how close a player must be before a spider will produce a web. It has a minimum of 1 and a maximum of 256. Lower values make the mod nearly invisible; higher values make webs appear all over the place.

Choosing a value

  • Hardcore / ambush feel: keep it low. Webs only appear when a spider is practically on top of you, so you get surprised in tight caves rather than finding webs everywhere.
  • Default behavior: leave it at the default (32). This is a middle ground — webs appear in the room you are fighting in, but not across the whole cave system.
  • Ambient decoration: raise it toward the upper end. Webs will generate in areas you pass near, letting you age a build or fill a town with cobwebs without standing in every corner.

Applying the change

1. Open the mod's config file for your instance.

2. Edit the maxDistanceToSpiderBlocks value, staying between 1 and 256.

3. Save the file and reload the world (or restart the game) so the new value takes effect.

Test in a creative world first: spawn a spider on an air block, walk away in steps, and note at what distance webs stop appearing. That tells you exactly how your chosen number behaves before you commit it to a survival world.
