Exploring an Alien World

Species is a small, single-purpose mod that adds alien flora, fossils, and bizarre creatures to Minecraft. Rather than overhauling the game, it layers new content on top of normal exploration, so your first step is simply to wander and look around.

New plant life such as Alphacene Grass, Moss, and Mushrooms grows in the world, along with fossil-like blocks including Bone Bark, Bone Spike, and Bone Vertebra. These hint at the creatures you can encounter.

Creatures range from the odd Birt and Goober to the imposing Quake, Treeper, and Wraptor. Many of them drop unique materials, and several have spawn eggs if you prefer to place them yourself. Eggs like the Wraptor Egg, Cruncher Egg, and Springling Egg can be found or obtained, and some hatch into mobs.

Biotech blocks and items such as the Kinetic Core, Coil, and Ichor tie the whole theme together. Take your time, collect what you find, and let the world reveal its strange inhabitants.
