How to Find a Specific Sound in the Sound Controller Mod When You Don't Know Its Name
Understanding the Naming Scheme
Sound Controller lists sounds by their technical registry names, not friendly labels. These names usually include the source or category — for example, a mob's name, a block name, or a mod's namespace prefix. Knowing this helps you guess good search keywords.
Searching Effectively
Open Options → Music & Sounds → Individual Sounds and use the search bar. Type a single keyword rather than a full phrase. Good keywords are the mob, block, or item involved: creeper, chest, rain, portal, villager. If your first keyword returns nothing, try a shorter fragment or a synonym. For modded sounds, try the mod's namespace or a distinctive word from the sound's purpose.
Narrowing the List
If a keyword returns too many results, scroll through and read the entries — the surrounding words usually reveal which is which. Once you've changed a few volumes, use the toggle that filters to only your modified volumes to keep the list short. If you still can't find a sound, note when it plays in-game, then search for the entity or block responsible for triggering it.
