Sound Controller Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I open the Sound Controller Mod settings?
Go to Options, then Sound Settings, and click the new "Individual Sounds" button. That opens the configuration screen where every sound in the game is listed.
Why do the sound names look like weird technical codes instead of normal names?
The mod lists sounds by their internal registry IDs, not by friendly display names, so you'll see things like entity.enderman.death rather than "Enderman death scream." A basic grasp of English and Minecraft's naming conventions helps you recognize which sound is which.
How do I mute the Nether portal sound?
Open the Individual Sounds screen, search for the portal sound by typing "portal" in the search bar, then drag its volume slider all the way down to zero. The sound is muted immediately without affecting any other sounds.
Can I lower a sound without muting it completely?
Yes, each sound has its own volume slider, so you can drag it down to any level between full volume and silent. This is useful for sounds you still want to hear but find too loud, like an Enderman's death scream.
How do I find a sound when I don't know its exact name?
Use the search bar at the top of the Individual Sounds screen and type part of the name you think it contains, such as "enderman" or "portal." The list filters as you type, so you can browse the matching results and preview which one is the right sound.
What does the toggle that filters to modified volumes do?
It hides all the sounds you haven't touched and shows only the ones you've already changed. This makes it easy to review, adjust, or revert your edits without scrolling through the entire sound list.
How do I revert a sound back to its default volume?
Turn on the filter for modified volumes to find the sound you changed, then reset its slider back to the default level. Once it's back to normal, it drops off the modified list automatically.
Does this mod work with sounds added by other mods?
Yes, the mod picks up sounds from other installed mods as well, not just vanilla Minecraft sounds. They appear in the same Individual Sounds list and can be adjusted the same way.
Will changing a sound's volume here conflict with the normal Sound Settings sliders?
The Individual Sounds screen controls per-sound volumes on top of the master category sliders in Sound Settings. If a sound still seems too quiet or too loud, check that its category slider (like Master or Ambient) isn't also turned down.
Does the mod hurt performance or cause lag?
It's a small, lightweight mod that only changes volume values, so it shouldn't noticeably affect performance. If you do see issues, check for conflicts with other sound-related mods rather than the volume changes themselves.
