Soul Shards: The Old Ways Mod FAQ
9 questions players actually ask, answered.
What does the Soul Shards: The Old Ways mod do?
It lets you capture the souls of mobs inside gems called Soul Shards. You can then use a filled shard in a Soul Cage to summon more of that mob, effectively creating your own custom spawner.
How do I get a Soul Shard?
Build a small structure: place one Netherrack on the ground, surround it with four Obsidian blocks, and put a Glowstone block on top of each Obsidian block. Right-click the Netherrack in the center with a Diamond in your hand to get an empty Soul Shard.
How do I bind a Soul Shard to a mob?
Carry an empty shard in your inventory and kill a mob. The first kill binds the shard to that mob type forever.
How do I make a mob spawner with Soul Shards?
Power up a bound shard by continuing to kill the same type of mob, then place the powered-up shard into a Soul Cage to start spawning that mob.
How do I get souls faster in Soul Shards: The Old Ways?
Right-click a vanilla mob spawner of the same type as your shard to quickly gather souls.
Is there an easy mode in Soul Shards: The Old Ways?
Yes, the configuration file has an Easy Mode option that uses a simpler mechanic for obtaining shards.
What can I change in the Soul Shards: The Old Ways config?
You can change various settings in the configuration file, such as how long items take to process.
What is a Soul Cage in Soul Shards: The Old Ways?
A Soul Cage is the block you place a filled Soul Shard into to summon more of the trapped mob.
Does Soul Shards: The Old Ways add new items and blocks?
