How to Read the Sodium Extra Information HUD Overlay
The
Sodium Extra Information mod adds an on-screen overlay that surfaces live data while you play. Knowing what each line means turns it from clutter into a useful diagnostic tool.
What Each Line Tells You
When the overlay is active you will typically see a stack of readouts covering: your real-world local time, the in-game world time expressed in days, how long your current session has been running, memory usage (often with expanded detail beyond the vanilla debug screen), total and rendered entity counts, and the biome you are currently standing in. The rendered entity count is the important one for performance — it reflects only what the game is actually drawing near you, not every entity loaded in memory.
Using It While Playing
Glance at the biome line when exploring so you know when you have crossed into new terrain without opening the debug screen. Watch the rendered entity count spike when you enter a mob farm, village, or busy server hub — a sudden jump usually explains a frame drop. The session timer is handy for remembering to take breaks or for timing how long a farm has been running. Memory usage creeping upward over a long session is normal, but if it keeps climbing without settling, that is your cue to save and restart.
Keeping It Readable
If the overlay overlaps other HUD elements, reposition or toggle it through the mod's configuration so it does not block your hotbar or health.
