How to Monitor Memory Usage and Session Length During Long Play Sessions
Long play sessions can slowly degrade performance, and the
Sodium Extra Information mod gives you two readouts that help you spot it early: memory usage and session duration.
Reading Memory Usage
The overlay shows memory usage with extended detail, meaning you can see more than a single percentage. Watch the trend rather than any single value. Memory climbing steadily during normal play is expected as the game loads chunks and caches data. The warning sign is memory that keeps rising and never drops back, especially after you have traveled far or loaded many chunks.
Using the Session Timer
The session duration line counts how long you have been playing. There is no magic number that means trouble, but pairing it with memory behavior is useful: if memory is high and the session has been running a long time, a restart is a reasonable move. The timer also helps you pace yourself during marathon building or farming sessions.
A Simple Routine
Before starting a big project, note your baseline memory and reset your expectations for the session. Check the overlay periodically as you build. If you notice stutter alongside climbing memory, save your world, quit to the main menu, and reload. This clears the accumulated state and usually restores smooth performance. Keep the overlay visible so these checks take a single glance instead of interrupting your flow.
