How to Reduce Lag from Large Campfire Farms with Smoke Suppression

Why Campfires Cause Lag

Every campfire continuously spawns smoke particles. In big farms that use many campfires — for example, bee farms, honey farms, or decorative builds — those particles pile up and can tank your framerate, especially on weaker machines. Smoke Suppression Mod removes the particles at the source by checking the block beneath each campfire.

Setting Up a Lag-Free Farm

1. Decide which block will sit under each campfire. Hoppers are a common choice because farms often already use them for collection, and hoppers are in the default suppression list.

2. Build your farm so every campfire rests directly on top of a suppressing block. If a campfire has air or a non-listed block below it, it will still smoke.

3. If you want to use a block that is not in the default list, add it to config/smoke_suppression.json or via Mod Menu with Cloth Config.

4. Verify by watching a campfire: if no smoke rises, suppression is active.

Tips

Because the mod works client-side, you get the visual and performance benefit on your own client even when playing on a server. This means you can keep large decorative campfire setups without the usual particle spam, as long as each campfire sits on a listed block.
