Smoke Suppression Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I stop campfire smoke in Minecraft?
Install the Smoke Suppression Mod and place a suppressing block, such as a hopper or rail, directly underneath the campfire. The campfire will then produce no smoke particles while keeping its fire and cooking behavior.
Which blocks suppress campfire smoke by default?
The default suppress list includes minecraft:hopper, minecraft:rail, minecraft:activator_rail, minecraft:powered_rail, and minecraft:detector_rail. Any campfire placed directly above one of these blocks will stop emitting smoke.
How do I add my own blocks to the smoke suppression list?
Open the config/smoke_suppression.json file and add the block IDs you want to the list, or use Mod Menu with Cloth Config installed to edit the list in-game. Save the file and reload the game or world for changes to apply.
Does Smoke Suppression Mod work on soul campfires too?
Yes, the mod affects both standard campfires and soul campfires. Placing a suppressing block underneath either type will stop its smoke particles.
Does this mod work on a server or only in single-player?
The mod works on the client side and in single-player mode. Because it only hides particles, it does not need to be installed on the server for you to see the effect.
Why is my campfire still smoking after installing the mod?
Check that the block directly beneath the campfire is on the suppression list and that the campfire is placed immediately above it. Also confirm the config file is valid JSON and that the block ID is spelled correctly.
How do I check whether smoke suppression is working?
Place a campfire on top of a hopper or rail and watch for particles. If no smoke appears while the fire still burns, suppression is active; if smoke still rises, the block is not in the list or the config was not loaded.
Will this mod reduce lag from large campfire farms?
Yes, hiding smoke particles reduces client-side rendering load, which helps most when many campfires are packed together. The mod does not change server-side tick behavior, so gameplay mechanics stay the same.
Can I use Smoke Suppression Mod with other mods?
It is designed to work alongside other mods and only affects campfire particle rendering. If another mod also changes campfire particles or rendering, test them together to make sure the suppression still applies.
Do I need Cloth Config or Mod Menu to use this mod?
No, the mod works without them by editing config/smoke_suppression.json directly. Installing Cloth Config and Mod Menu just gives you an in-game interface for editing the same options.
