Smelting Sand In A Blast Furnace Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I smelt sand into glass with a blast furnace?
Place a blast furnace, put sand in the input slot, and add any valid fuel to the fuel slot. The blast furnace will output glass at twice the speed of a regular furnace.
Does this mod work in existing worlds or do I need to start a new one?
It works in existing worlds since it only changes blast furnace smelting behavior. Just make sure the mod is loaded before opening the world.
Why isn't my sand smelting in the blast furnace?
Check that you're using a blast furnace and not a regular furnace, that fuel is present, and that the mod is actually loaded. If you edited the config, a syntax error in blastingsand.json can silently disable the recipe.
How do I add other blocks to the blast furnace smelting list?
Edit blastingsand.json in your profile folder and add entries following the same format as the sand entry. You can also configure this in-game through the mod's config screen.
Where is the blastingsand.json config file located?
It's in your Minecraft profile folder, typically inside the config directory. If you can't find it, launch the game once with the mod installed so it generates the default file.
Can I automate sand-to-glass production using hoppers?
Yes. Feed sand into the top of the blast furnace with a hopper, fuel into the side, and pull glass out of the bottom with another hopper into a chest.
Does the blast furnace smelt sand faster than a regular furnace?
Yes, the mod makes sand smelt at twice the speed of a regular furnace, matching the blast furnace's normal speed multiplier for ores and other smeltables.
Can I smelt sand in a regular furnace with this mod installed?
Yes, vanilla furnace smelting of sand into glass still works. The mod only adds the blast furnace recipe; it doesn't remove the original one.
Will this mod conflict with other mods that change blast furnace recipes?
It can conflict with mods that overwrite blast furnace recipe behavior, especially those that replace vanilla smelting logic. If sand stops smelting, check load order or test without other smelting mods.
Does this mod affect performance on servers or with many blast furnaces?
The mod itself is lightweight since it only adds a smelting recipe. Performance impact comes from running many blast furnaces at once, which is the same as vanilla behavior.
