How to Get the Smelting Enchantment

Finding Smelting

The Smelting enchantment can be obtained through three main methods:

Enchantment Table

Place your pickaxe in an enchantment table alongside lapis lazuli. Smelting may appear as an option in the list of available enchantments. The level of Smelting available depends on your enchantment table's power level, so invest in bookshelves around your table to increase chances of higher-tier enchantments.

Loot Chests

Search naturally generated loot chests throughout your world—particularly in mineshafts, dungeons, and other underground structures. Enchanted pickaxes with Smelting may be found as rare loot.

Villager Trading

Locate a librarian villager and check their trades. Some librarians offer enchanted books, including Smelting. You may need to trade with multiple librarians or refresh their trades by breaking and replacing their workstation until you find one offering the enchantment you want.

Applying to Your Pickaxe

Once you have a Smelting enchanted book, use an anvil to combine it with your pickaxe. This costs experience levels but permanently adds the enchantment to your tool.
