Does Smart Particles Work With Other Mods and Shaders?

Compatibility With Particle-Heavy Mods

Smart Particles is designed to cull both vanilla and modded particles, so mods that spawn lots of effects — magic, tech, weather, or mob mods — benefit the most. It doesn't need per-mod patches; it hooks into the particle rendering pipeline generically.

Shader Packs

Shader packs replace the rendering pipeline, which can conflict with how Smart Particles decides what's visible. If you use shaders:

1. Test with shaders on first. Many players report it still works, but culling may behave differently.

2. If particles look wrong or flicker, disable camera culling while shaders are active — shader-based visibility can confuse the mod's FOV check.

3. Keep line-of-sight culling on; it usually plays fine with shaders.

Mods That Add Their Own Particle Systems

Some mods implement custom particle renderers that bypass vanilla rendering. Smart Particles may not cull these. If you notice a specific mod's particles tanking FPS despite the mod being installed, check that mod's own particle settings — many particle-heavy mods include their own density or distance options you can combine with Smart Particles.

Quick Test Routine

Load a world with your full modpack and shaders, stand in a busy area, and toggle Smart Particles on and off via the config. Compare FPS and visual quality. If something breaks, disable one culling feature at a time to isolate the culprit.
