Making Small Held Items Work With Other Resource Packs
Understand What Conflicts
Small Held Items changes the scale of item models. Any other pack that also ships item model JSON files — 3D tools, custom swords, animated items, or full texture overhauls — will conflict at the model level. Texture-only packs (packs that just replace PNGs) generally do not conflict, because they change the skin of the model, not its size. Knowing which type you are combining saves a lot of trial and error.
Order Packs by Priority
In Options → Resource Packs, place Small Held Items above texture packs but below any pack whose custom models you absolutely must keep. Remember: top wins. If you want small versions of another pack's custom models, that pack must be below Small Held Items, but then its own model files will be overridden and its custom shapes will disappear. There is no way to merge two model files through pack order alone.
Accept the Trade-Offs
You cannot have both a pack's unique 3D model and Small Held Items' scaling applied to that same item unless the packs were built to be compatible. Decide per-item what matters more. For most players, keeping Small Held Items on top and letting vanilla-shaped items
shrink is the cleanest result, while custom weapon packs go below and stay full-size.
Test Each Combination
Add packs one at a time and press F3+T after each change. Note which items
shrink and which do not, so you know exactly which pack is winning for each model.
