How to Layer Multiple Skyboxes for a Combined Effect

One of Skyboxify's strengths is overlaying several skyboxes so you can combine, for example, a starfield behind drifting clouds. Each skybox is defined in its own properties file, and the mod renders them together in the order you set up.

Preparing Each Layer

Create a separate skybox properties file for every layer you want. Give each one its own textures and its own blend mode so the layers interact the way you intend. A background layer might use a simple blend, while a foreground cloud or aurora layer uses an additive or alpha blend so it sits visually on top.

Controlling Order and Blending

Order matters. Arrange your layers so the base sky renders first and detail layers render after it. Use the blend mode option on each layer to decide how it mixes with what is already drawn — an alpha-style blend keeps transparency, while an additive blend brightens. If two layers fight each other, adjust the blend mode rather than the textures.

Tuning the Result

Load the world and check the sky at different times and angles. If a layer is too dominant, reduce its visual weight through blending or by simplifying its texture. Layering is iterative, so expect a few passes before the combined sky looks right.
