How to Make Nether Portals in SkyBlock (Netherrack and Nylium Portals)
Why Normal Portals Fail
In a standard SkyBlock void, you have no obsidian and no way to reach the Nether, which locks you out of netherite, blaze rods, and most progression. Sky Void Additions changes portal spawning so that when a portal would form over the void, it generates a netherrack or nylium platform instead of obsidian. This means you can light a portal and step through without ever mining obsidian.
Building the Portal
Construct a standard portal frame shape — the same dimensions as a vanilla Nether portal — but using netherrack or nylium blocks instead of obsidian. Nylium portals specifically require netherrack as part of the frame, so mix the two if you only have limited nylium. Once the frame is complete, ignite the inside with flint and steel or a fire charge. The portal lights normally and the platform beneath generates automatically over the void.
Getting the Blocks First
If you don't yet have netherrack or nylium, check the config menu to see which related mechanics are enabled — some recipes and conversions feed into this progression. Piglin bartering and other Nether-only loops become reachable once your first portal is lit, so treat this as your gateway. Keep the portal area lit and enclosed so mobs don't wander in while you travel.
