Using Skippy Pearls to Cross Oceans and Large Lakes
Why Water Becomes a Highway
Normally an ender pearl thrown over open water is wasted the moment it touches the surface, because you teleport into the water at that spot. With Skippy Pearls, the pearl keeps moving across the surface, so open water stops being a dead zone and starts acting like a runway.
Planning the Crossing
1. Pick a straight line between your start point and the far shore. Skips work best when you are not constantly changing direction.
2. Start from the highest nearby point you can reach quickly, such as a coastal hill or a temporary pillar. A higher start flattens the angle of your first throw.
3. Throw the first pearl and note where you land. If you landed in water, you are now standing on the surface and can throw again immediately.
4. Repeat, aiming at the same distant landmark each time so your path stays straight.
Practical Tips
- Carry more pearls than you think you need. A long crossing eats through a stack quickly, and running out mid-ocean is worse than running out on land.
- Keep a boat in your inventory as a backup. If a throw lands you somewhere awkward, the boat lets you continue normally.
- Do not bother with this over short ponds. The setup time only pays off on genuinely large bodies of water.
