Skippy Pearls Data Pack FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I make ender pearls skip on water?
Just throw an ender pearl at a water surface at a shallow angle and it will bounce instead of sinking. Aim low and flat across the water rather than straight down into it.
Do I need to craft anything special for pearls to bounce?
No crafting is required — the data pack changes vanilla ender pearl behavior globally. Any ender pearl you throw at water will skip, as long as the pack is active in your world.
How many times can a pearl bounce before it stops?
A pearl keeps skipping as long as it maintains enough speed and hits the water at a shallow angle. Steeper throws and longer distances cause it to lose momentum and eventually sink or land.
Why does my ender pearl sink instead of bouncing?
You're probably throwing it too steeply or from too high up, so it enters the water at a sharp angle. Throw it more horizontally and closer to the surface to get a skip.
Can I ride the pearl across an ocean?
Yes — a well-aimed pearl can skip multiple times across open water, letting you teleport large distances over oceans and lakes. Chain throws or combine it with a boat for longer crossings.
Does this work in the Nether or End?
It works anywhere there's a water surface for the pearl to hit, so it functions in the Overworld and anywhere else you've placed water. It won't help in dimensions without water unless you bring your own.
Does the pearl still teleport me when it bounces?
Yes — the pearl teleports you to wherever it finally lands or sinks, so each bounce extends the distance before you're pulled to it. This is what makes it useful for crossing water.
Can I use this with boats or elytra?
Yes, pearls pair well with boats for covering water and with elytra for covering air. Throw a pearl ahead while gliding or boating to extend your travel range.
Is this data pack compatible with other data packs and mods?
It generally works alongside most data packs since it only alters ender pearl water behavior. Conflicts are most likely with packs that also modify ender pearl physics or water interactions.
Does it cause lag or performance issues?
No — it's a lightweight behavior change and shouldn't noticeably affect performance. Any lag you see is more likely from the pearls themselves or other packs, not the skipping mechanic.
