Setting Up SkinsRestorer on a BungeeCord or Velocity Network

Where to Install the Plugin

On a proxy network, SkinsRestorer should be installed on the proxy (BungeeCord or Velocity) rather than only on individual backend servers. The proxy handles player connections before they reach any game server, so it's the correct place to manage skins centrally.

Configuration Steps

1. Place the plugin in the proxy's plugins folder and restart the proxy.

2. Decide whether backend servers also need the plugin. In most setups, the proxy alone is enough, but some admins install it on backends too for command handling.

3. Ensure the proxy is in offline mode if you're running an offline network — this is exactly the scenario SkinsRestorer is built for.

4. Verify that skin storage is consistent. If the proxy stores skins but backends don't know about them, players may see mismatched skins when switching servers.

Testing

Join the network and run /skin set <username>. Then switch between backend servers and confirm the skin follows you. If it reverts on one server, that backend isn't receiving skin data from the proxy.

Keep the plugin version consistent across the proxy and any backends where it's installed, and avoid running conflicting skin plugins simultaneously, as they can overwrite each other's data.
