SketchRender Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to do anything after installing SketchRender or does it work automatically?
SketchRender works automatically once installed, but you should verify that entity culling is enabled in your mod settings to get the full benefit. If you're using Embeddium, chunk culling will also activate automatically if your graphics card supports OpenGL 4.6.
Why are mobs and items disappearing when I look at them?
This usually means entity culling is too aggressive or there's a conflict with another mod. Check your mod configuration to adjust culling sensitivity, and make sure you're not running mods that modify entity rendering in incompatible ways.
What's the difference between entity culling and chunk culling?
Entity culling hides individual mobs and items that are blocked from view, while chunk culling prevents entire terrain chunks behind walls from being drawn. Chunk culling requires Embeddium and is more demanding on your graphics card but gives bigger frame rate improvements.
Do I need Embeddium to use SketchRender?
No, SketchRender works on its own with entity culling. Embeddium is only required if you want to enable chunk culling for additional performance gains.
My graphics card is old—will this mod help?
SketchRender helps most if you have an older processor paired with a decent graphics card, since it moves work from your CPU to your GPU. If both your processor and graphics card are very old, the benefit will be smaller.
What OpenGL version do I need?
Entity culling requires OpenGL 4.4 or newer, and chunk culling requires OpenGL 4.6 or newer. You can check your graphics card's OpenGL support in your driver settings or with a GPU utility.
Why isn't my frame rate improving much?
Frame rate gains depend on how many hidden mobs and chunks are in your view—if you're in open terrain with few obstructions, the improvement will be small. Also check that entity culling is actually enabled and that your graphics card meets the OpenGL requirements.
Can I use SketchRender with other rendering mods?
SketchRender is designed to work alongside Embeddium specifically. Compatibility with other rendering mods varies; if you experience visual glitches, try disabling one mod at a time to identify conflicts.
Does SketchRender affect gameplay or change how the world looks?
No, SketchRender only controls what gets drawn—it doesn't change blocks, mobs, or mechanics. You should never see a visual difference except that performance improves.
How do I know if SketchRender is actually running?
Check your mod configuration menu to confirm entity culling is enabled, and verify your graphics card supports the required OpenGL version. In-game, you can test by standing behind a wall with mobs on the other side—if they don't render, culling is working.
