Simply Shaded Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the colored lighting after installing the shader?
Open your shader settings menu in-game (usually accessible from Video Settings) and enable Simply Shaded Shaders from the available shader list. The colored glow from light sources should appear immediately once activated.
Why aren't my light sources glowing with color?
Check that your shader is actually enabled in the Video Settings menu. If it's on but you still see no glow, try adjusting the brightness slider in the shader options—colored lighting may be too dim to see at default settings, especially during daytime.
Can I use this shader with other mods that add custom blocks?
Simply Shaded works with most mods, but custom light-emitting blocks from other mods may not receive colored lighting unless they use standard light source properties. Vanilla and commonly-used mod light sources (like torches, lamps, and glowstone) will glow normally.
My FPS dropped after enabling the shader. How do I fix this?
Simply Shaded is designed for low-end hardware, but you can boost performance further by lowering your render distance, disabling advanced lighting options in the shader settings, or reducing your resolution. Check the Optimize Frame Rate on Low-End Hardware guide for detailed steps.
Does this shader work in the Nether and End dimensions?
Yes, colored lighting works in all dimensions. Lava, glowstone, and other light sources will emit their colored glow in the Nether and End just as they do in the Overworld.
Why do some colored lights look washed out or barely visible?
Brightness and contrast settings can affect how vivid the colored lighting appears. Refer to the Adjust Shader Brightness and Contrast guide to fine-tune these values for better visibility of the glow effects.
Can I adjust which blocks emit colored light?
Simply Shaded automatically applies colored lighting to all vanilla light sources based on their block type—you cannot selectively disable individual blocks from glowing. However, you can adjust the overall intensity of the effect through the shader settings.
Does this shader affect my game's save file or world data?
No, shaders are purely visual and do not modify your world or save file. You can enable or disable Simply Shaded at any time without affecting your progress or builds.
Why is colored lighting uneven or patchy in my world?
Uneven lighting can occur if your chunk rendering distance is too low or if lighting updates haven't fully processed. Try increasing your render distance slightly or revisiting the area after reloading your world. See the Troubleshoot Uneven or Missing Colored Lighting guide for more solutions.
Will this shader work on my old computer?
Simply Shaded is specifically optimized for low-end hardware and potato computers, so it should run on most systems. If you experience lag, follow the performance optimization guide to reduce the visual quality or lower your game settings further.
