How do I make a villager follow me?

Can I lead multiple villagers at the same time?
Yes, you can lead multiple villagers at once by holding an emerald or emerald block. All nearby villagers who see the item will follow you together, though they'll maintain their own spacing as they walk.
What's the difference between using an emerald and an emerald block?

Will villagers follow me through water?
