Create a Combined Resource and Data Pack

When to Use Common Packs

Sometimes you want a single package that modifies both textures and gameplay—for example, a themed pack that changes block textures and adds custom recipes. The resources/common/ folder handles this efficiently.

Building Your Combined Package

Create a folder in resources/common/required/ or resources/common/optional/ depending on whether it should always load. Inside, include both:

  • assets/ folder (for textures, models, and sounds)
  • data/ folder (for loot tables, recipes, and functions)
  • pack.mcmeta file

How It Loads

The mod automatically splits your combined package into its resource and data components. The resource portion loads client-side, while the data portion loads server-side. This happens seamlessly—you don't need separate files.

Best Practice

Use common packs when your theme or feature set requires synchronized changes across both client and server. This keeps related content together and simplifies modpack distribution.
