Using the Data Pack on a Multiplayer Server

Where the Pack Needs to Live

For all players to get night vision, the data pack must be installed on the server's world, not on each client. Data packs are server-side, so players do not need to download anything themselves. Place it in the world's data pack folder and run /reload.

Verifying It Applies to Everyone

1. Join the server and run /datapack list to confirm it is enabled.

2. Ask another player to check their screen in a dark area, such as a cave or at night underground.

3. If only some players have the effect, check whether a permissions or region plugin is restricting effects in certain areas.

Managing It Without Restarting

You can enable and disable the pack live with /datapack enable and /datapack disable, followed by /reload. This avoids a server restart. Keep in mind that reloading runs all data pack functions again, which is harmless here but can briefly lag a busy server.

If your server uses a plugin that also grants night vision, disable one of the two to avoid conflicts. Two sources applying the same effect can cause the flicker described in other guides.
