Simple Night Vision Data Pack FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

How do I get night vision to start working after installing the data pack?
The effect is applied automatically to all players once the data pack is active in the world, so you don't need to craft or use anything. If you don't see it immediately, reload the data pack or rejoin the world so the function runs again.
Does this data pack give night vision to every player on the server or just me?
It targets all players, so everyone online receives permanent night vision regardless of who installed it. New players who join later also get it automatically when the effect refresh runs.
Why does my night vision keep flickering or disappearing?
Flickering usually happens when another effect or command is overwriting the night vision, or when the effect is about to expire before it refreshes. Removing conflicting effects or making sure no other data pack is clearing effects will stabilize it.
Can I turn the night vision off for just one player?
Yes, you can remove the effect from a specific player with a command, but the data pack will reapply it on its next refresh cycle unless you exclude that player. For a permanent exception you'd need to edit the function to skip that player.
Will this data pack work in the Nether and End?
Yes, night vision applies in every dimension since it's a player effect, not a lighting change. It's especially noticeable in the Nether and in caves where light levels are low.
Does permanent night vision cause lag or hurt performance?
The performance impact is minimal because it's just a repeating effect refresh rather than constant world lighting changes. On very large servers the main cost is the function running for many players, which is still light.
Can I use this alongside shaders or other mods?
Yes, it works with shaders and most other mods since it only applies a status effect. Some shaders change how night vision looks, so the brightness may appear different than in vanilla.
Why does the night vision look different or too bright compared to fullbright?
Night vision brightens the world but keeps some color and lighting variation, unlike fullbright texture packs that remove darkness entirely. This is intentional and generally looks more natural while still letting you see in the dark.
Does the night vision effect show particles or a timer on screen?
Night vision normally shows swirling particles around the screen edge and an effect icon in your inventory. If you find the particles distracting, you can hide them through your video or particle settings.
How do I remove the data pack and get rid of the night vision?
Disable or remove the data pack from the world, then clear the effect from players with a command or let it expire. Once the data pack is gone it won't reapply, so the night vision stops permanently.
