Fixing Night Vision That Stops Working or Flickers

Why the Effect Drops Out

Night vision from a data pack is reapplied on a timer. If that timer is too slow, or if something else clears your effects, you will see the screen pulse between normal and bright. Common causes are drinking milk, dying and respawning, or another mod clearing effects on a schedule.

Steps to Stabilize It

1. Run /reload to force the data pack's functions to run again.

2. Check /datapack list and make sure the pack shows as enabled, not just present.

3. Avoid drinking milk or eating anything that clears effects while you rely on the pack.

4. If you use other mods, look for any that manage status effects and disable their effect-clearing behavior.

When It Still Flickers

Flickering usually means two sources are fighting: one applying night vision and one removing it. Temporarily disable all other data packs with /datapack disable, reload, and test. If the flicker stops, re-enable them one at a time to find the culprit.

On a server, confirm the pack is installed in the world's data pack folder and not only in a per-player location, since server-side packs apply to everyone.
