Combining Night Vision With Other Effects and Playstyles
What Stacks and What Does Not
Night vision is a status effect, so it follows the normal rules: a stronger or longer source overrides a weaker one rather than adding to it. This means potions, beacons, and this data pack all compete for the same effect slot. You will not get "double" night vision.
Practical Uses
- Caving and mining: The effect makes ores and cave shapes visible without torches, but it does not light up the world for mob spawning purposes. Mobs still spawn in dark areas.
- Building at night: You can keep working above ground after sunset without placing light sources.
- Screenshots and recording: The effect gives a consistent look without fullbright texture packs, though colors may appear slightly washed out.
Avoiding Conflicts
If you also run a beacon with night vision, or drink night vision potions, expect the effect to refresh from whichever source is active. To keep
things predictable, pick one source. If you want the pack's effect gone for a specific build or event, disable the pack with /datapack disable and /reload, then re-enable it afterward.
