Use Text Placeholders for Dynamic Item Information
Adding Placeholders and Translations
Insert dynamic content into item names and lore using placeholder syntax.
Placeholder Types
- Keybind references: Use
&followed by a keybind ID to display the player's bound key - Translated text: Use
&[translation.key]to insert localized strings (e.g.,&[entity.minecraft.zombie]displays "Zombie") - Spaces: Use
&_where normal spaces don't work
Steps
1. Hold your item
2. For keybinds, type /edit lore Press&_&[key.jump]&_to&_jump — this inserts the player's jump key
3. For translations, use /edit lore Crafted&_by&_&[entity.minecraft.villager] to add translated entity names
4. Combine with colors and formatting for full customization
Example
`
/edit lore &[block.minecraft.diamond_block]&_Pickaxe
`
This displays "Diamond Block Pickaxe" using the game's translation for the diamond block.
Use Cases
Placeholders are useful for creating tooltips that adapt to player settings or show localized names without manual translation.
