Simple Item Editor Mod FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I start editing an item with this mod?
Hold the item you want to edit in your hand and type /edit in chat. The command will target the item in your main hand and open editing options for its properties.
Can I edit items in my inventory or do they have to be in my hand?
The item must be in your main hand (not in your inventory) for the /edit command to work. Move the item to your hand slot before running the command.
What's the difference between &k and ȷ for formatting?
&k applies vanilla Minecraft formatting codes like bold, italic, and strikethrough. ȷ is used to apply hex color codes directly to your text for custom colors.
How do I add a space in item names or lore when spaces are normally used to separate arguments?
Use &_ to represent a space in your text. For example, /edit name Hello&_World will create the name "Hello World".
Can I reference keybinds in item lore?
Yes, use the & placeholder syntax to insert keybind references. The mod will automatically display the player's bound key for that action.
How do I add translated text like mob names to an item's lore?
Use the &[translation.key] syntax, such as &[entity.minecraft.zombie], and the mod will insert the translated name based on the player's language settings.
What are escape sequences and when would I use them?
Escape sequences like xXX (for 8-bit hex colors) and uXXXX (for Unicode characters) let you insert special characters or precise color values that aren't available through normal formatting. Use n for newlines in lore.
Will this mod work on a multiplayer server?
This mod is client-side only, so it works in single-player and on servers, but the edits only appear to you—other players won't see your custom item names or lore.
Can I edit items that are on the ground or in item frames?
No, the /edit command only works on items held in your main hand. You must pick up the item first to edit it.
What happens if I use invalid syntax in the /edit command?
The mod will typically reject the command or apply partial changes. Check the chat for error messages and refer to the command syntax—make sure your placeholders and escape sequences are correctly formatted.
