How to Tune Terrain and Overall Fog for a Custom Look

What terrain fog controls

Beyond water and the Nether, Simple Fog Control exposes a general terrain/overall fog setting. This is the fog that fades distant land, builds, and the horizon. Lowering it gives you crisp long-distance views; raising it creates a moody, enclosed atmosphere.

Adjusting it

1. Open the settings screen through Mod Menu.

2. Find the terrain (or overall) fog entry.

3. Use the slider to set how strong the distance fade should be, or toggle it off for maximum render distance clarity.

4. Step outside and look at the horizon to evaluate. Repeat until it matches the look you want.

Combining settings for a style

  • Clear explorer: terrain fog off, water fog low, Nether fog off — everything visible as far as your render distance allows.
  • Atmospheric survival: terrain fog moderate, water fog moderate, Nether fog left on — keeps the world feeling dense without blinding you.
  • Screenshot mode: drop terrain fog to near zero so builds and landscapes read cleanly in the background.

Notes

All of these are visual only and client-side, so they never change world generation or gameplay difficulty, and they apply instantly without restarting the game.
