How to Clear Nether Fog for Better Visibility in the Nether

The problem

The Nether's thick red haze limits how far you can see, which is rough when you are bridging over lava or hunting for a fortress. Simple Fog Control treats Nether fog as its own category, so you can thin it without touching how the Overworld looks.

Steps

1. Open the settings screen via Mod Menu.

2. Find the Nether fog control.

3. Turn it off, or reduce its strength with the slider until the haze is comfortable.

4. Enter the Nether (or look around if you are already there) to judge the change.

Tips

  • Because the setting is separate from terrain fog, you can keep normal atmospheric fog in the Overworld while having a completely clear Nether.
  • Clearing Nether fog makes distant lava lakes and ghast fireballs much easier to spot, but it also removes the depth cue that warns you about drops. Bridge carefully.
  • If you play with shaders, check whether the pack has its own Nether fog option; the two can fight each other, and you may need to disable one of them.
  • This is a client-side visual change, so it works on servers without any server-side installation.
