Silent Sentry Protection Plugin FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
Do I need to install PacketEvents separately?
Yes—PacketEvents must be in your plugins folder alongside the Silent Sentry jar for packet checks to work. The server will warn you on startup if it's missing.
How do I stop the plugin from kicking legit players?
Set all punishments to report-only mode in the config, then use `/movealerts` and `/xrayalerts` to watch alerts in chat before enabling auto-kicks. You can also adjust violation thresholds with `/bsac` and reload live without restarting.
Why are my players with high ping getting flagged?
Silent Sentry uses round-trip transaction timing to account for ping automatically, but if players still get caught, lower the movement violation thresholds in your config or add them to the whitelist with `/acwhitelist`.
Can I whitelist a whole group or just individual players?
The `/acwhitelist` command supports both individual players and groups—check your config to define group names, then whitelist by group name to exempt multiple players at once.
What's the difference between report-only and silent mode?
Report-only shows alerts in chat so admins see them; silent mode (`/acsilent`) logs violations without broadcasting them, letting you track cheaters without tipping them off.
Does this work with Bedrock players on my Java server?
Yes—if you run Geyser, Silent Sentry automatically ignores Bedrock client differences so cross-platform players won't get false-flagged.
How do I check if someone is X-raying?
Use `/xrayores` to see that player's ore mining stats and patterns; combine this with `/xrayalerts` to get notified of suspicious mining behavior in real-time.
Will this plugin slow down my server?
Silent Sentry is lightweight and runs on Paper and Folia without heavy overhead; it checks movement every tick but false-alarm checks are disabled by default to keep performance smooth.
Do I need to restart the server after changing settings?
No—use `/bsac reload` to apply config changes instantly without restarting.
What should I do if I see a lot of false alerts when I first install it?
This is normal; keep punishments in report-only mode for a few days, watch the alerts, then gradually raise violation thresholds in your config until false positives drop while real cheats still get caught.
