Silent Gear FAQ

Craft a Gear Smithing Table first, then combine a tool head, tool rod, and binding to assemble your first tool. You'll also want a Blueprint or Template for the part you're making so the recipe shows up in the smithing table.

Place the Gear Smithing Table and open it to see slots for a tool head, tool rod, and binding. Put matching parts in the slots and the resulting tool appears in the output; blueprints and templates unlock the recipes you can craft.

Use a Repair Kit matched to the tool's main material, or combine the tool with its repair material in a crafting grid. Repair Kits are more efficient and can be crafted from the same metal or material the tool is made of.

Traits are innate bonuses granted by the materials used in a part (for example, a head material might add bonus damage or durability). Modifiers are added after assembly using upgrade items and can be applied or removed at the Gear Smithing Table.

Craft the modifier item you want, then apply it to the tool in the Gear Smithing Table using the upgrade slot. Some modifiers need an Advanced Upgrade Base or specific materials, and each tool has a limited number of upgrade slots.

You don't convert a Silent Gear tool into a vanilla netherite item; instead you swap the tool's parts for higher-tier materials like Crimson Steel or Tyrian Steel. Rebuild the head, rod, or binding with the better material to raise its stats.

Allthemodium is added by another mod, so Silent Gear can only use it if that mod registers the material as compatible. If it does, craft the part from Allthemodium and reassemble the tool; otherwise the material won't appear in the smithing table.

Silk Touch is a vanilla enchantment, so apply it to a Silent Gear tool the same way you would to any enchanted item, using an anvil or an enchantment modifier. Silent Gear tools accept enchantments normally unless a material trait blocks them.

There's no single best tool because stats depend on the head, rod, and binding materials you choose. Pick materials whose traits match your goal, such as high mining speed for a pickaxe or high durability for a weapon, then add modifiers to fill gaps.

Most compatibility issues come from other mods not registering their materials with Silent Gear, so those ores and ingots won't appear as parts. Check the configuration file to see which materials are enabled and whether any are disabled by the pack author.
