Protect Your Base from Shrapnel Damage

Choose the Right Defensive Blocks

Not all blocks stop shrapnel equally. Metallic blocks like iron, copper, and gold will deflect and bounce shards away, making them excellent for perimeter walls. However, shrapnel can punch through thin obstacles like wooden doors, fences, glass, and leaves—avoid relying on these for protection.

Stone and heavy blocks create chunkier fragments when destroyed, so they're safer to use than wood. If you must use wood, place it behind a metal layer.

Build a Shrapnel-Resistant Structure

1. Create an outer wall using iron or copper blocks—these deflect primary shrapnel and slow secondary debris through collision.

2. Leave a gap or use a second layer of dense blocks (stone, obsidian) behind the metal wall to catch any fragments that slip through.

3. Avoid large glass windows facing outward; if you want visibility, use smaller panes spaced apart.

4. For doors and hatches, use metal variants or reinforce wooden ones with metal frames.

5. Keep valuable items and beds away from exterior walls where shrapnel penetration is most likely.

Test Your Design

Trigger a small explosion (like TNT) near your structure to observe how shrapnel behaves against your chosen materials. Adjust block placement based on where fragments penetrate deepest.
