Shield Fixes Mod FAQ

10 questions players actually ask, answered.

What does the Shield Fixes Mod actually change?
It fixes two vanilla shield bugs: the wrong hurt sound playing when you attack a blocking player, and the animation glitch where a blocking player's shield doesn't visibly raise for others. Everything else about shields works the same as vanilla.
Do I need to do anything to enable the fixes after installing?
No. The fixes are active as soon as the mod is loaded, both in singleplayer and on servers that have it installed. There are no toggles or config options you need to touch to get the core behavior.
Why can I suddenly hear a sound when my shield gets disabled?
That's the mod's shield-disable sound cue, which plays when your shield is put on cooldown by an axe hit. It's there so you know immediately that you can't block for a moment, instead of finding out the hard way.
Does the mod work on a server, or only in singleplayer?
The sound and animation fixes need to be present on the server for other players to see and hear them correctly. In singleplayer it works out of the box; on multiplayer, the server has to have the mod too.
Will other players see my shield blocking animation now?
Yes, that's one of the two bugs it fixes. When you raise your shield, other players should see the blocking pose instead of your arm sitting in a neutral position.
How do I know if a shield hit sound is from the mod or from vanilla?
The mod adds distinct feedback for shield hits and damage that vanilla doesn't play, so if you hear a sound when a shield absorbs a hit, that's the mod. Vanilla only plays the generic hurt sound, which was the bug being fixed.
Does the shield sound play for explosions and projectiles too?
Yes. The sound cues work with all damage sources, including explosions, arrows, and other projectiles, not just melee hits. That makes it useful for spotting incoming ranged attacks in PvP.
Is this mod compatible with other combat or PvP mods?
It only touches shield sound and animation behavior, so it generally plays fine alongside combat mods that don't rewrite the same shield code. If another mod also changes shield sounds or blocking animations, expect the two to conflict.
Will the mod hurt my performance or FPS?
No. It's a small fix mod that changes sound events and animation states rather than adding rendering or world content, so the performance impact is negligible.
Can I use this mod to tell when another player's shield is disabled?
Yes, in a sense. When a player's shield is disabled by an axe, the mod's sound cue plays, so you can hear that their guard is down and push your attack. Combine that with the fixed blocking animation to read the situation faster.
