How do I activate the shield lowering effect?
The pack works automatically once installed—your shield will lower to your side by default when held in your off-hand. No configuration or commands are needed; just hold a shield and the visual change takes effect immediately.
Does this pack change how shield blocking actually works?
No, all shield mechanics remain identical to vanilla Minecraft. The pack only changes the visual position of the shield model on your screen; blocking damage and parrying still work exactly the same way.
Can I use two shields at once with this pack?
Yes, if you hold shields in both your main hand and off-hand, both will be repositioned lower on your screen according to the pack's model changes.
Why does my shield still block my view sometimes?
When you actively block (hold right-click), the shield raises to protect you, which is intentional and necessary for the blocking mechanic to work visually. The lowering only applies when you're holding the shield passively.
Does Shield by Side work with other resource packs?
It depends on what the other pack modifies; if another pack also changes shield models, they may conflict. Load Shield by Side lower in your pack order (so it loads last) to give it priority, or check if the packs are designed to be compatible.
Can I use this pack with mods that add custom shields?
Custom shields from mods may or may not be affected depending on whether they use the standard shield model. Test in-game to see if the lowering effect applies; if not, the mod's shield uses a different model that this pack doesn't modify.
Does the pack affect how shields look in third-person view?
Yes, the pack adjusts the shield position in both first-person and third-person views so your character appears consistent from any camera angle, as shown in the screenshots.
Will this pack cause lag or performance issues?

What if the shield doesn't lower for me?
