Set Up Shared Health for Competitive or Hardcore Gameplay
Configuring Difficulty Levels
Shared health transforms survival into a high-stakes cooperative challenge. Use these strategies to calibrate difficulty for your group.
Creating a Hardcore Experience
- Enable both
shareHealth trueandshareHunger truefor maximum interdependence - Play on Hard difficulty or higher so mistakes have severe consequences
- Limit respawning or use additional mods that enforce permadeath
- Avoid keeping excessive healing items—force the group to earn survival
Balancing Challenge and Fun
- Start with shared health only (
shareHunger false) to ease into the mechanic - Use Normal difficulty if your group is new to coordinated survival
- Establish safe zones where players can recover without pressure
- Create checkpoints or milestones so progress feels achievable
Group Agreements
- Discuss expectations before starting—is this a serious challenge or casual fun?
- Set rules about when players can log out (mid-combat vs. safe areas)
- Decide whether to allow creative mode or commands for emergencies
- Consider rotating leadership roles so different players make strategic decisions
