Shader_vanilla Shaders FAQ
10 questions players actually ask, answered.
How do I turn on the colored lighting?
Colored lighting is enabled by default when you install Shader_vanilla Shaders. If you don't see colored light from torches or lanterns, check that shaders are active in your Video Settings menu and that the shader pack is properly selected.
Why do my shadows look too dark or too light?
Open the shader options menu (usually accessible by pressing a key while in-game or through Video Settings) and adjust the shadow intensity slider to match your preference. Lower values create softer, lighter shadows while higher values make them more pronounced.
Can I use this shader with other mods?
Shader_vanilla Shaders works with most mods, but mods that heavily modify lighting or add custom blocks may cause visual conflicts. Test compatibility by loading your modpack and checking if colored lighting appears correctly on modded blocks.
My FPS dropped after installing the shader. What should I do?
Try reducing shadow quality in the shader options—this is the most performance-intensive feature. You can also lower your render distance or disable moving clouds and foliage effects if performance is still poor.
Does this shader work on low-end computers?
Yes, Shader_vanilla Shaders is designed to run on older hardware without major frame drops. If you experience lag, adjust shadow quality downward or enable any performance mode options in the shader settings.
Why don't glowstone and other light sources look colored?
Colored lighting only affects blocks that emit light in specific colors, like torches and lanterns. Glowstone emits white light by default, so it won't display colored lighting unless you've customized the shader settings for that block.
How do I make caves brighter with this shader?
Adjust the ambient lighting or cave brightness slider in the shader options menu to increase visibility in dark areas. You can also increase the colored lighting intensity so torches and lanterns illuminate caves more effectively.
Will this shader change how my builds look?
Shader_vanilla Shaders maintains the vanilla block appearance while adding colored light and shadows, so your builds will look familiar but with enhanced depth and atmosphere. The changes are visual only and won't affect gameplay or block properties.
Can I disable shadows but keep colored lighting?
Yes, most shader option menus allow you to toggle shadows separately from colored lighting. Open the shader settings and disable the shadow feature while leaving colored lighting enabled.
Why do clouds and foliage look different?
Shader_vanilla Shaders includes optional effects like moving clouds and swaying foliage for added atmosphere. If you don't want these effects or they're causing performance issues, you can disable them individually in the shader options menu.
