Record a Static Chunk Area Continuously

Setting Up Chunk Recording

ServerReplay Mod allows you to record specific chunk areas independently of server view distance. This is ideal for monitoring builds, bases, or event locations without recording entire player sessions.

Steps:

1. Identify the chunk coordinates of the area you want to record

2. Configure the mod to enable chunk-based recording

3. Specify the chunk coordinates and size in the server config

4. Choose whether recording should be continuous or only when players are nearby

5. Enable the option to skip unloaded periods—this saves storage by pausing recording when no activity occurs in that chunk

6. Start the server; the mod will begin recording that area automatically

Efficient Storage

Chunk recording generates smaller replay files than full player recordings because it focuses on a defined area. The skip-unloaded feature is particularly useful for long-term monitoring: the replay won't contain hours of empty footage, only moments when the chunk was actively loaded and changing. This makes it easier to review time-lapses of construction projects or detect griefing.
